Troy-based Dancraft Construction Inc. teamed with Dayton archtect David Flannery to win a Contractor of the Year award Jan. 23. The annual contest sponsored by the Local Miami Valley Chapter of the National Remodeling Industry honors regional remodeling contractors. The judges' criteria include innovative use of materials, overcoming obstacles and craftmanship. Flannery and Dancraft were one of 11 first-place winners from a nine-county Miami Valley region, said NARI association executive Kathy Kramer. Another Flannery/Dancraft collaboration, the addition of a sunroom and terrace to the Ken and Jane Eberly home, Troy, is a finalist for the national NARI awards to be announced in March. The company will compete with more than 100 other companies nationwide, Kramer said. Flannery and Dancraft president Dan Swank attended a ceremony at the Mandalay Banquet Center in Dayton, where they received first-place honors in the Residential Interior category for remodeling the interior of the Marrs home in Spring Creek Twp. This is the second consecutive year a Flannery/Dancraft project has won a first place. Piqua home owners Jeff and Joanna Marrs had planned a room addition, but after consulting Dancraft, they opted for a home redesign. "By talking about our problems, we found out that the design was all wrong. We had so much space unused in the house that it was stupid to add on when we were not utilizing the space we had," Jeff Marrs said. "We have fallen in love with our house again, and want to stay another 20 years." The project, which included skylights, a new roof, a new kitchen, ceramic work and a custom entertainment center, took about five weeks, Swank said. Founded in 1974, Dancraft Construction Inc. specializes in kitchen remodeling and room additions. Swank joined NARI in 1990 and is a past president of the Miami Valley chapter.
